Summary Under minimal supervision from the maintenance manager, the Tool Setter operates forklifts and overhead cranes, analyzes a variety of specifications, and operates machine tools, fitting and assembling parts to make or repair molds. The Tool Setter must have knowledge of tool design, shop mathematics, metal properties, machinery, and assembly procedures. Mold setters keep production flow by repairing existing molding machinery for operation and must be able to use a variety of hand and power fixtures and demonstrate the mechanics of molding machines, operation, and relation to mold installation. Responsibilities Understands and follows plant safety and procedures Avoids or prevents hazardous conditions from developing Wears appropriate protective equipment as required, dresses and conducts self in a safe manner Keeps work area clean and orderly and maintains Lean 5S Participates in plant safety objectives Demonstrates the mechanics of molding machines, their operation, and how this relates to mold installation. Reads and interprets tool setup sheets, drawings, and SOP's Uses a variety of hand tools and fixtures Assists in installation and removal of tooling Cleans and examines tooling for defects Repairs fixtures as necessary Reports and document tooling changes Operates forklifts and overhead cranes Responsible for following all company policies/regulations Performs all quality checks, interprets and reacts to data trends on quality documentation Follows up on quality product/process improvement suggestions Takes proactive ownership and responsibility for product quality at point of manufacture and process improvement Fully quality trained and understands concepts, documentation and control procedures Performs duties as assigned by supervisor Basic Qualifications High School Diploma or GED OR experience may be considered in lieu of education 5 years experience setting up molds in an injection molding environment Additional duties may be assigned to meet business needs Knowledge and understanding of the various types of production equipment Must have good interpersonal skills, able to work with minimal supervision to meet department goals Good mechanical/electrical abilities Good communication skills & Interpersonal skills Ability to read blueprints Injection molding skills Ability to read and understand various written instructions in English Must be able to: Bend, twist & turn in a safe manner Lift up to 40 Pounds Stand for long periods Good hand dexterity Ability to speak and write in clear English communications Strong math skills
