Manager, IT Technical Support
Summary
Manages and administers the provision of University:wide information technology and user support services, to include the facilities and the technical and user support staff associated with these functions. Ensures operational continuity of facilities, and the cost:efficient provision of hardware and software services and support, problem analysis, and core technical support. Provides technical leadership and participates in strategic and organizational planning for the delivery of institution:level information technology services and support.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manages the operation and administration of facilities that provide core IT technical support and services to the University community; ensures that facilities are available, efficiently staffed, and equipped with appropriate technology and supplies.
2. Plans and oversees the development, implementation, and support of information technology programs and initiatives for the provision of University:wide IT support and services.
3. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
4. Coordinates and provides leadership in the development and implementation of relevant new systems, system enhancements, and system improvements; reviews and evaluates systems proposals as appropriate.
5. Participates in short: and long:term planning and policy development, as it pertains to core information technology support for the University.
6. Participates in the the development of annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction for the unit.
7. Identifies and develops effective working relationships and lines of communication with client constituencies at all levels.
8. Recommends, participates in the development of, writes, and implements policies and procedures.
9. Participates as a member of management team in planning, problem resolution, and reviewing department performance.
10. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state:of:the:art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
11. Performs miscellaneous job:related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree; at least 6 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. OR Masters degree; at least 4 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Broad and current working knowledge of information technology as it applies to commercial or public service enterprise.
- Knowledge of current information technology developments and trends.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate client informational needs and to determine appropriate alternative solutions.
